G4S awarded British Government contracts

G4S, the largest security company in the UK and Ireland, has been awarded two contracts by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for the provision of security services in Afghanistan and in the UK. Both contracts, which together are worth around £27 million per annum, are for a three-year period.

The FCO is a key global account for G4S which has been working with the FCO for many years and currently has more than 2,500 employees providing it with security services across the world.

Afghanistan

G4S will be providing security services to the UK Government in Kabul and other key locations across Afghanistan including Helmand province. The contract is valued at £23M approx per annum and covers the following services:

  • Security officers, to protect personnel and assets at a number of UK Government sites in Afghanistan, including the British Embassy in Kabul.
  • Mobile security services, to protect UK Government employees as they move around Afghanistan.

UK

G4S will be providing security guarding and reception services for the FCO’s eight locations in the UK. The contract is valued at £4 million approx per annum and covers the following services:

  • Controlled entry to and exit from all sites;
  • Reception of visitors and guests to the sites;
  • Operation of the control rooms and monitoring of intruder detection and automatic access systems;
  • Emergency response;
  • Risk management support;
  • Security patrolling, internally and externally
