Oil and gas giant Shell has recognised a G4S security team in the Philippines for going without a single accident injury since winning the contract – more than six years ago.

Over 2,200 incident-free days have passed since the team took over security operations at Shell Philippines Exploration’s (SPEX) head office and on-shore gas plant in Batangas City.

In recognition of such strong commitment to safety, SPEX has awarded the G4S team its Goal Zero award for the sixth year running.

And it’s not only about safety. To qualify for the award contractors must also show compliance for training programmes, operational processes and even the uniform and professional appearance of its employees.

Congratulations to the security team for its excellent safety performance so far. We hope they keep it up and continue to care for each other.
DONNABEL CRUZ, HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT MANAGER FOR SPEX

“A non-compliance in any of these areas would send our record back to square one,” said Allen Erick Melo, Project Manager. “And considering the challenging environment in which we operate, this is an outstanding achievement by the team.”

The SPEX security team takes a proactive approach to safety, which includes visible safety leadership and employee engagement, competency-based training for security officers, use of safety observation cards and active participation in the customer’s safety meetings.

“We believe very strongly in protecting the safety of both our employees and our colleagues at these locations, and we hope this record will continue for a long time to come,” Allen added.

Donnabel Cruz, Health, Safety & Environment Manager for SPEX, said:

“Congratulations to the security team for its excellent safety performance so far. We hope they keep it up and continue to care for each other.”
