Total Gas and Power renews meter reading contract with G4S
G4S has been reading gas meters for Total Gas & Power, the largest supplier of industrial and commercial supplier of gas by volume to businesses in the UK, since 2004. This latest announcement sees the partnership extended for up to five more years with G4S expected to make 600,000 visits each year to Total Gas & Power’s UK customers.
The renewed contract started on 1 November 2012 and has a value of £6m.
Karole Downtown, Income and Operations Director for Total Gas & Power said:
“The option of retaining G4S Utility Services as our business partner provides us with many clear advantages, and we welcome the continuation of our valued long term relationship.”
Simon Best, Managing Director for G4S Utility Services said:
“We are delighted that Total Gas & Power has once again chosen G4S to deliver their meter reading services. Over the past eight years we have built a strong relationship with Total Gas & Power, demonstrating our commitment to this partnership by consistently exceeding performance requirements and achieving service levels higher than industry standard norms. It is our desire for this relationship to continue and develop further over the coming five years as we see the inevitable shift towards smart meters as they are rolled out across the country.”
G4S is now the largest supplier of outsourced meter reading services in the UK.
Under government plans, old-style meters are being replaced by Smart meters. Smart meters measure exact usage and send all the information back to energy suppliers – either directly, or via a data-processing company (such as G4S) – without the need for someone to visit the property.
